Tudors to Windsors: British Royal Portraits From Holbein to Warhol

Guided Lecture Tour Museum of Fine Arts Houston

Saturday, November 10 at Noon

This unprecedented exhibition presenting 150 objects from the National Portrait Gallery in London examines the evolving nature of royal portraiture by such artists as Hans Holbein the Younger, the great Northern Renaissance artist who was court painter to Henry VIII; Sir Joshua Reynolds; Peter Lely; Annie Leibovitz; Cecil Beaton; and Andy Warhol. The Museum of Fine Arts Houston is the only American venue for this exhibition that features works that have mostly never been out of England. There are paintings, sculptures, and photographs. In particular there are four dynasties that are examined: the House of Tudor (1485-1603) which includes Henry VIII and Elizabeth I; the House of Stuart (1603-1714); the House of Hanover (1714-1901); and the current House of Windsor. Masterpieces on view will feature images of Henry VIII, Elizabeth I, George I, Queen Victoria, Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Diana, and Prince William. This is a stunning opportunity to see
