The Romanovs: Alexander III & The Empress Marie
La Madeleine's on Lemmon
Wednesday Nights, June 14, 21, and 28 from 7:30-9:00 p.m.

In these illustrated lectures, we will study the gentle giant, Tsar Alexander II, and his stunningly beautiful Danish wife, Dagmar or Marie. They were the parents of the last tsar, Nicholas II. The exact opposite of his father, Alexander II, Alexander III was very moral, and determined to preserve the autocracy. His father had freed the serfs, and was later murdered. Alexander III was not reform minded like his father. He was married to one of the greatest beauties of her age, the Danish princess, Dagmar. We will talk about the policies of the tsar, and the family life of the Romanovs. We will begin to get into the life of the young Tsarevich Nicholas II.

After this session, we will take off the week of July 4, and then resume with Nicholas and Alexandra, and the fall of the Romanovs. We will meet on Tuesdays for this session: July 11, 18, and 25. This July will mark the 99th anniverary of the murder of Nicholas and Alexandra, and their children.

Price is $78 for three lectures, or $26 per lecture if paid by June 7. Afterwards, the price is: $90/person for the three lectures, or $30 for one lecture. No refunds after June 7.
